Vast meadows and forests surround the site, which is situated in the heart of the historical North Sea flooding area, the ancient coastal plains and the wooded lands of Wijnendale Castle.
This is Roman territory. The Steenstraat nearby is a secondary Roman road connecting northern France to the Netherlands. This is where Mary of Burgundy used to ride her horse. These are the meadows fought over during 'The Great War'.
Nature lovers will absolutely enjoy their stay in our beautiful country side with its many hiking routes, bicycle paths and mountainbike trails of the Flanders bicycle network.
The great cities of Bruges, Ostend, Diksmuide, Ypres and Roeselare are but a 30 minute drive away. If you feel like visiting the area, just ask for our programme. It includes all the must sees.
